The illustrious teacher who gave us fame
Andrei Barseanu was born in 1858, at Darste, near Brasov. He accomplished his studies in Brasov, then he went to Vienna and Munchen, where between 1878 and 1881, he finished his university studies. He joined the students` organization "The Young Romania".
During his studies in Vienna he met Jan Urban Jarnik, the next to be philologist and philoromanian with czech origin, an honour member of The Romanian Academy.
He came back to Transylvania, first in Brasov, where he taught in the Romanian Highschool. He became a reviser and then a dirigent of the superior school. He moved to Sibiu where he was appointed the headmaster of education. He edited the educational journal `` The school and the family`` in 1887. He became a member of the Romanian Academy and in 1912 he was elected vicepresident. A year before he was elected president of ASTRA, being in this position until 1922. In the same period of time he became regional headmaster of schools.

In 1918 he became the vicepresident of The Great National Committte , and vicepresident of The Dirigent Council in Sibiu.
Andrei Barseanu is the author of the poem `` Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire``(our flag has the written word UNITY) , which had a real success among the Romanians and, especially among the Romanian soldires in World War I. Simultaneously with the action in Transylvania, he maintained the links with the educated class from Romania. Together with Jarnik he published works of Romanian folklore from Ardeal.
This legacy ought to be respected and followed from generation to generation, but mainly by the generation of the teachers and students of our highschool. We have the duty to follow it precisely to be worth of the spiritual patron of this school, because Andrei Barseanu` great soul watches us.
